Tina Bikić (1987) is an artist, researcher and educator based in Berlin. She develops Poetical Digital Storytelling (PDS) as a practice of imaginative poetics that builds upon digital storytelling, screenwriting, artistic research and poetic film.

Her practice is situated between language and image, where she expands her artistic vision beyond the text-based script into an embodied, solo-authored process. In this process she takes on the roles of writer, narrator, filmmaker and editor to create unified artistic works. She sees the poetical storyteller as an architect of imaginary, constructing cinematic spaces as carefully as one would build physical ones.

Spaces constitute a central research thread in her artistic practice. She approaches them as emotional landscapes that she films and revisits until the human-architectural affective relationship reveals itself. In that process she is drawn to the unseen, to what is hidden, overlooked, and unforeseen, layering all her ideas like memory itself. As memories are prone to shifting forms, she first approaches them by documenting what is, and later, through her optics of imaginative poetics, she reinterprets them into what they might yet become.

For her, art becomes a way to negotiate with uncertainties. Her practice emerges from the synergy of image and language, imagination and experimental narrative, transforming memory into film and opening affective cinematic spaces for audiences. Through this praxis, she explores themes of home, displacement and in-betweenness, approaching them as spatial and experiential layers of memory, rewritten and re-enacted in the search for belonging.

MY APPROACH

PDS builds upon the foundations of digital storytelling, structurally connected to screenwriting and aesthetically influenced by poetic and essayistic film, yet it does not fully belong to any of these fields. I understand it as a synthesis and expansion of these practices, a methodology that learns from them, builds upon them, and forges its own path. I approach these fields not as an external analyst but from within, drawing on a decade of practice as an artist, researcher, and educator. My aim is to articulate the originality of PDS and to present it as a necessary alternative methodology within contemporary artistic-research discourse.

ABOUT

My academic background was shaped by studies in comparative literature and film, where I found myself creating between language and image. I recognised text as only a beginning, identifying as a full author, one who strives to realise their vision through all phases of creation.
